Biodiversity & the Community
Do you enjoy walks in the Ochils, an afternoon at a local park, or cycling around your community? This note will help you think of how biodiversity concerns your daily life and how this Plan relates to you.
Biodiversity can:
- Improve your quality of life - by contributing to your health and well-being.
- Improve livability - by softening and screening urban landscapes and creating safe environments.
- Define a sense of place - by adding to and guiding people to landscapes that reflect our local heritage and culture.
- Provide a rich sensory experience - by supporting a variety of habitats, plants and species.
Did you know...
- There are 188km of paths within Clackmannanshire.
- Inactivity is Scotland’s silent killer with 72% of woman and 59% of men not active enough. A minimum of 30 minutes of moderate daily activity is recommended by The Health Education Board for Scotland. Walking is one of the easiest activities to integrate into your everyday life as it’s free and offers an opportunity to learn more about your community.
- A recent Scottish Executive survey found that 3/4 of respondents agreed that "most people in Scotland today need to change their way of life so that future generations can continue to enjoy a good quality of life and environment".
So how can you give something back to biodiversity?

- Try and learn a new bird or flower each time you are out and keep a record of what, where and when you see them. After a few months, post the results and share them with the biodiversity coordinator.
- Encourage friends to exercise outside, instead of driving to the gym.
- Form or join a community nature group.
- Fund raise with your community for interpretation signs or leaflets on favourite local walks to share information on the history, access and biodiversity of the area.
