What is Biodiversity?

Biodiversity is the total variety of life on Earth. It includes all species and habitats from vast oceans and forests to wee ants and plants, and it includes us! Biodiversity provides us with products like food and clothing, services like the absorption of carbon dioxide, medicines and beautiful creatures and landscapes. Biodiversity is important for our daily lives therefore it is essential, both now and in the future, that we protect our local biodiversity.

This website is a summary of the Clackmannanshire Biodiversity Action Plan - tranches 1 and 2. It provides a glimpse of the habitats and species that are contained in the Plan and the objectives for each. A third and final tranche will be produced by Spring 2004 and will include habitats and species as outlined at the back of this document.

Copies of the full technical document are available for viewing at local libraries or can be downloaded from this site. Please contact the Clackmannanshire Biodiversity Partnership if you would like further copies or more information on biodiversity in Clackmannanshire.
